Legal/Legislative Update for May 2026

  • California’s Glock ban takes effect July 1, 2026. This law prohibits the retail sale of Glock style pistols after July 1. This law only affects sales, you are still allowed to own your existing Glock pistols.
  • AB 1078: 3 Firearms a Month: Law went into effect April 1, 2026. Californians are now limited to a maximum of 3 gun purchases a month. It replaces a one-gun-per-month law struck down by the courts. The law also allows non-Californians to hold a California concealed carry weapons permit.
  • The Senate Appropriations Committee has advanced Senate Bill 948, which is now eligible for a vote on the Senate Floor. Senate Bill 948 would dramatically expand California’s Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) requirements by mandating a minimum four-hour training course beginning in 2028, including live-fire exercises and state-prescribed classroom instruction. The bill also imposes a new mandate on individuals moving into California.
